Flood Watch

In Cooperstown, rain started falling about 5 p.m. Here, a Santa on Elm Street is reflected on the wet pavement. (Jim Kevlin /AllOTSEGO.com)

With a major storm moving up the East Coast, Otsego County and much of Central New York will be under a flood watch from 1 a.m. Friday morning until late tomorrow night.

The National Weather Service is predicting widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches, with some localities experiencing up to 3 inches.

The wet soil conditions and this amount of rainfall could result in minor flooding along the Susquehanna and Delaware River basins, along with roadways and poor drainage areas, according to the Weather Service.

The weather watchers encourage people to monitor forecasts as they develop, “and be alert for possible flood warnings.  Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.”
