ONEONTA – Citing a “bold progressive agenda,” Mayor Gary Herzig has endorsed candidate Jeff Beals for Congress in the June 26 Democratic primary in the 19th Congressional District, the first and only endorsement by a city mayor in the race.
“Jeff Beals is the tough, experienced progressive we need to take on John Faso in the fall,” Herzig declared. “He stands out in this race with a bold progressive agenda and the government background to make change happen. He will win this race, and I stand with him and the movement he has built to change life here for the better.”
COOPERSTOWN – Diane Neal, former “Law & Order SVU” actress and an independent candidate for the 19th Congressional seat, has cancelled this afternoon’s planned 3 p.m. appearance at Cooperstown Village Hall, according to organizer Richard Sternberg, due to an illness in her family.
Sternberg said he will conducted a round table discussion about the five candidates who have appeared so far.
HEADS UP: Zephyr Teachout, Democratic candidate for Congress from Otsego County and the 19th District, will be meeting voters at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Dobler’s Brewery & Tavern in Mount Vision.
Congressional Hopeful Eldridge To Open Oneonta Office
ONEONTA – Sean Eldridge, the Democratic nominee for Congress from the 19th District that includes Otsego County, is opening an Oneonta office at 152-154 Main St. He plans to update supporters on the campaign at an opening reception 10:30-noon Saturday, Aug. 16.
U.S. Rep. Chris Gibson’s anti-Lyme Disease legislation – the Tick-borne Disease Research Transparency & Accountability Act of 2014 – has been voted out of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, his office announced today.
H.R. 4701, introduced by the 19th District Republican in May, seeks to prioritize federal research on Lyme and related diseases and give patients a seat at the table.
