Turmoil At Otsego Now,

And Homer Simpson, Too

Just as its three-year economic-development drive is bearing front in Oneonta’s $14 million downtown redevelopment program, a potential distribution center at Schenevus and other initiatives, Otsego Now’s board of directors appears ready to head off in a new direction, seeking a full-time CEO that makes the future of the architect of the current successes, Sandy Mathes, unclear. The three new board members put in place by county board Chair Kathy Clark, R-Otego, in the past year have formed a new majority that is pushing the idea. And, by the way, Homer Simpson will be celebrated at the Baseball Hall of Fame this Memorial Day Weekend. All in the week’s Hometown Oneonta & The Freeman’s Journal, on newsstands now.

Board Discusses County and State Finances, Development, Government Transparency

Numerous speakers utilized the privilege of the floor to address the board on issues concerning them. Notably, Teresa Winchester, Lynn Ohl, and Gilbertsville Mayor Aidan Woishnis each spoke to their grievances regarding the recent closure of the Gilbertsville Meadow Brook Bridge on County Route 4. Winchester read from a letter describing how the bridge was closed due to it being declared unsafe for use, but said that the county had known of its failing condition for years.…
