Water-Polo Teams Locally

ONEONTA – Four nationally-ranked water-polo teams – #7 Michigan, #10 Princeton, #14 Indiana, and #20 Harvard – will join the #17 Hartwick Hawks this weekend for 13 Collegiate Water Polo Association conference matches in Moyer Pool.

Bucknell, Brown, and George Washington also make the trip. All 13 games will be streamed live free of charge at: https://portal.stretchinternet.com/hartwick/.

The Hawks open up play against the GW Colonials at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. It marks the Hawks’ second conference match of the season after starting with a victory over Bucknell on February 25. Hartwick is 17-7 overall on the year and has won nine of its last 11 contests.

Junior Zsofia Polak (Dunaujvaros, Hungary / Rudas HS) and freshman Lena Kotanchyan (Moscow, Russia / Elk Island School #368) have led the Hawks’ attack this season. Polak has team-highs of 62 goals, 35 assists, and 97 points. She leads the league in points, is second in goals scored, and sixth in assists. Kotanchyan has added 57 goals and 24 assists for 81 points, which places her in the top 10 in the CWPA in all three categories. She also has a team-best 48 steals.

The Hawks host Michigan (22-8), last season’s national semifinalist and CWPA champion, on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Wolverines topped the Hawks 13-11 in the regular season last year. ’Wick last beat UM in the CWPA third-place game in 2015 with an 11-10 overtime win.
On Sunday, Hartwick plays 10th ranked Princeton at 3 p.m. The Hawks will be in search of their first win against the Tigers since 2011. ’Wick was topped in the CWPA semifinals in each of the 2013, 2014, and 2015 seasons.
