ONEONTA – Jamie Potter, 61, longtime proprietor of Pie-in-the Sky, much beloved by SUNY and Hartwick college students for its ice cream and pancakes, and author of Marvis Frazier’s biography, passed away unexpected on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017.

James W. Powers Jr. was born on Nov. 4, 1955.

He was and will always be the epitome of compassion, tolerance, perseverance and integrity to us and those who knew him. Inspired by his principled existence, we will aspire to continue our lives with the same level of love and conviction that he embraced, his family wrote in his obituary.

Jamie is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janet Powers, and two children, the lights of his life, Jack and Sadie Potter, as well as his mother, Shirley Ingraham, sisters Gayl Tyler (Nick) and Lynn Lawrence (Bill), brother DJ Potter, mother-in-law Betty Powers, brother-in-law Geoffrey Powers, and sister-in-law Beth Ludens (Jerry).

He will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, and friends and acquaintances whose lives he touched throughout 37 years operating Pie-in-the Sky.

The family invites friends to celebrate his life at calling hours 5-8 Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
