Key Role In Oneonta Media Scene

WORCESTER — Robert W. Evans, 73, a fixture on Oneonta’s media scene for four decades — in radio, TV and print — passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 5, 2019, at Fox Hospital.

Bob was born April 16, 1946, the youngest son of Eddie R. and Flora Evans. He was a lifelong resident of Worcester.  In 1963, Bob met Barbara Haskell in high school. They were married at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Worcester on Aug. 26, 1967. They were high school sweethearts for 52 years.

Bob began his career in advertising in 1969 at WDOS, Oneonta. He was instrumental in the implementation of the first FM radio station in Oneonta, WSRK. During his career in advertising sales, Bob worked in all aspects of media, radio, TV and print.

He was an avid hunter and had a passion for turkey hunting. He was a past president of the local chapter of The National Wild Turkey Federation in our area. He loved to fish with his grandchildren. Family was everything to him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara J. Evans; two daughters, Kara Ann Evans Boljevic and her husband, Nick, and Kristen Leigh Evans; grandchildren, Nicholas Robert, Ariana Lauren and Nathan Omer Boljevic; brother, Michael and Sandy Haskell; sisters-in-law, Nedra Savoia, Cynthia Willenbacher, Sandra and Patrick Lyga, Deborah and Johnnie Sadlon; nieces and nephews, Stephen and Ali George, Stacy Bissoon, Patti Ann and Lisa Haskell, Patrick and Chad Lyga, Joshua and Brittney Case; eight great-nieces and nephews; brother, Donald Evans; and aunt, Kathleen Haskell.
He is predeceased by his parents, “father and mother,” Robert and Ann Haskell; brother, Ransom Evans; and uncle, Fredrick Haskell.

Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 10, at Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester.
A funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 201 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
