IN MEMORIAM: Howard Coons, 92;

WWII Veteran, Spent Career At USPS

ONEONTA – Howard Coons, 92, a career Postal Service employee at the Oneonta Post Office, passed away peacefully at Fox Nursing Home on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019.

He was born in 1926 in Stamford, son of Howard and Mabel Dowell Coons. He lived most of his life in Oneonta, graduating from Oneonta High School.

He served in the Navy and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II.

He worked for the Oneonta Post Office for 35 years, retiring in 1981.

He married Dolores McNeely in 1950 and they remained happily married until her death in 2016. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Oneonta.

He is survived by his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Karen of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and granddaughter, Jennifer Derringer of Atlanta, Ga.

A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Plains Cemetery.
