EDITORIAL: Re-Charge!

Editorial Re-Charge! A little over a year ago The Freeman’s Journal put forth an editorial on the subject of electric vehicle chargers, which were at the time pretty scarce within the Village and, in fact, even outside the Village. The reason we explored the local availability of these chargers was, of course, that our tiny historic Village has been, and is, the destination of myriad urban baseball, sports, scenic and music explorers whose mode of transportation to Cooperstown is increasingly…

Bound Volumes 02-10-22

Bound Volumes 185 YEARS AGO If a man by digging a well obtains good water, the product may be of immense value to him, and yet, this water which is the product of the labor of digging the well, is of little or no exchangeable value. That is, he cannot exchange it for any other product. The products of statesmen and professional men have improperly, it is believed, been called immaterial products. The labor of these classes is, or ought…

Area crews ready for whatever Mother Nature brews

Area crews ready for whatever Mother Nature brews By Kevin Limiti It is easy to take for granted the pristine roads that resurface after every snow fall. When Mother Nature sends the winter weather, it isn’t magic that clears away the snow from the streets but the grit of the workers manning the snow plows and checking for ice in the early hours of the morning. Cooperstown Streets Superintendent Christopher Satriano said that all starts with the vigilance and hard…

Letter: A vote against dispensaries

Letter: A vote against dispensaries To the Editor: I continue to be very concerned about the unknown unintended consequences if cannabis dispensaries and lounges were to be permitted in the Village of Cooperstown. Whether it will help, hurt, or have no effect on the quality of life, tourism, the nation’s view of the Village of Cooperstown (will they still visit in family units?), the desire of the average person to want to live and work in the village, the view…

Our View: Move forward on housing in Cooperstown

Our View Move forward on housing in Cooperstown One would like to believe that Cooperstown, once referred to as “America’s Favorite Hometown,” is a thriving, dynamic community. A walk down Main Street in July or August, with crowds of people swarming the streets and shops, would suggest that it is indeed as billed. The same walk in January or February, with darkened, shuttered store fronts and empty parking spaces, would offer a very different impression. When the remarkable increase in…
