Local Indivisible Members Call for Swift Climate Action at DEC Hearing

Climate activists have been frustrated with what they perceive as Gov. Kathy Hochul’s back-pedaling on emission controls. Hochul had been expected to announce steps to implement the cap-and-invest program in her January 2025 State of the State address. Gilbertsville History Exhibit: A Remembrance of Things Past

Photographs are an important part of the exhibit. There is a small picture album from the Presbyterian Church featuring photos from Gilbertsville’s sesquicentennial. Many nostalgia-producing photo postcards depict village residences then occupied by William N. Dietz, Mrs. E.S. Frone and James B. Wickes, and others—as well as points of interest, such as the Empire House, the Gilbertsville Free Library, Studio Dionysus, and the Episcopal Church.  …

SUNY Program Seeks To Involve Students in Local News Writing

In September and December of 2024, Tony Savio wrote articles on meetings of the Oneonta Common Council. Haley Saunders wrote an engaging article on an Oneonta Main Street vintage store, The Underground Attic, in December 2024. In January 2025, Eva Pickert wrote about Chad Angelotti, mental health coach for SUNY Oneonta’s women’s soccer team, and his original approach to helping team members manage stress.…

SFCU Soon To Occupy Former Community Bank Building

The effort to procure alternative banking services was led by Butternut Valley Alliance and its “Save Our Bank” task force, formed on the heels of Community Bank’s withdrawal. Members of the task force included co-chairs Ed Lentz and Maggie Brenner, as well as other BVA members Tom Washbon, Jason Cianciotto and Bob Thomas. Seed Swap Promotes Gardening, Community Spirit
