ONEONTA – NBT Bank will be honored as the NYCM Insurance Distinguished Business of the Year at the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, Thursday, May 3, at Foothills, beginning at 5:45 p.m., the chamber announced today.

Earlier, it was announced that Eugene A. Bettiol Sr., who passed away in December, will received the Eugene A. Bettiol Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award named for his son and sponsored by Bassett Healthcare.

The evening’s theme is   “Supporting Entrepreneurial Spirit in Otsego County.”

NBT was praised for creating its downtown Oneonta Regional Financial Center, moving 14 employees of its Mang Insurance Division to its One Wall Street building, and adding a credit analyst and cash-management specialist for 16 new full-time positions downtown.

Simultaneously, NBT Bank helped coordinate with Treffeisen, owners of the Riverside Professional Building, and Catskill Area Hospice to fill the planned vacated space on River Street Extension. This immediately filled the vacancy and helped Hospital consolidate its operations.

NBT Bank, which also marked its 20th year in Otsego County in 2017, has 58 employees in the county, contributing millions of dollars in taxes, payroll, benefits and contributions/sponsorships. Many employees are key contributors to boards and organizations throughout the county.

The two honorees had a close association throughout the years, renting their Southside Branch from Gene Bettiol, and receiving support from the bank in many of his ventures.
