ONEONTA – A homeless man was arrested by state troopers and charged with stealing items from cars on Southside Drive and Glen Drive in Oneonta, according to Trooper Aga Dembinska, Troop C Public Information Officer.

Eric M. Meade, 26 (Homeless) of Oneonta, was arrested after troopers were dispatched to a complaint of a theft in progress on Southside Drive in the town of Oneonta just after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 13.

DAVENPORT – A car was pushed into the path of an oncoming ambulance during a collision that injured four people on State Highway 23, according to a release by State Police, Troop-C.

An investigation at the scene of the accident revealed that a Pontiac G6 driven by Kevin L. Johnson, 56, Windham, was stopped waiting to turn left into the Mirabito when he was allegedly rear-ended by a Hyundai Veloster driven by Shaun M. Jones, 20, Davenport.

PITTSFIELD – An Otego man was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree Manslaughter in the Pittsfield crash that killed two women in July.

Shane M. Santiago, 26, Otego, was arrested by State Police Troop C after an investigation revealed he had allegedly been driving recklessly when the 2011 Ford Escape went off the roadway on County Highway 13 in Pittsfield.

“He was driving 85 miles per hour around a steep curve,” said District Attorney John Muehl.

In One Case, Clerk Stabbed In Hand

State Police released this surveillance photo of a man wanted for questioning in a series of gas station robberies in Oneonta and Otego early this morning.

ONEONTA – Four gas-station robberies were reported between 1:20 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. today in the city and town of Oneonta, and in Otego, city police and state troopers report.

In one case, the clerk was stabbed in the hand; in at least two of the other cases, the suspect said he was armed, but didn’t show a weapon,  police said.

According to a release from the Oneonta Police Department, the spree began at 1:20 a.m., when officers were called to the Kwik Fill convenience store, 66 Chestnut St., for a reported attempted robbery.

“The clerk told us the man purchased a snack, and when the register was open, he tried to grab the money,” said Oneonta Police Chief Doug Brenner.

GUILDFORD – A passenger was killed and the driver seriously injured after the car they were traveling in allegedly failed to stop at an intersection and went under a tractor trailer.

According to Aga Dembinksa, Troop C public relations officer, State Police at Sidney responded to the crash at the intersection of State Route 8 and County Road 35 in the town of Guilford at 6:17 p.m. this evening.

ONEONTA – A 24-year-old man was airlifted to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City after jumping off the Exit 16 overpass onto I-88 last night.

The victim was airlifted by Lifenet to Wilson Hospital, where he is being treated for internal injuries.

I-88 was closed for approximately 45 minutes following the incident at 8:15 p.m., which State Police believe to be an attempted suicide.
