The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce addresses area child care needs and opportunities in a free Zoom webinar, “Child Care Desert Grant Explained,” on Thursday, March 17, beginning at 9 a.m.
Rebecca Matthews of Catholic Charities, the lead organization behind the program, presents the webinar teaching local employers how to register and apply for funding to start childcare in your business, help a spouse of an employee set up a childcare for workers, or help expand an already existing childcare facility near your business. With $11 million available in this grant funding beginning in April, employers should begin the two-step registration process immediately.

I recently returned from a much- anticipated vacation with my family. In the weeks and days leading to this vacation, it seemed as if all I could think about was how good it would be to get away—from the house I spent a year living AND working in. From the office I’ve become reacquainted with in the last six months. From vaccination reports, retention reports, vacancy reports, and sick leave reports. Away from Zoom meetings. I couldn’t wait to get away from home!
Otsego County’s congressman Antonio Delgado, D-19, will host a telephone “town hall” meeting via Zoom at 6:16 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24.
He will brief attendees on the House’s COVID-19 relief package, which he said would deliver an estimated total of more than $400 million in direct federal funding to counties, towns, and villages across the 19th District. He will also answer questions from the public.

To continue serving classical music fans in time of COVID, The Catskill Symphony Orchestra took to Zoom Saturday night with a program featuring Conductor Maciej Żółtowski in the first of a series of “Conversations with Beethoven.” You can hear it at the “Catskill Symphony Orchestra CSO” YouTube channel. In the first episode, Żółtowski discussed all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies – some with cited performances. He presented anecdotes, including an alleged “tantrum” after Napoleon rose to power and the conspiracy around the unlucky ninth symphony that proved to be the last for many composers, Beethoven included. In the next episode, Żółtowski will delve deeper into the man behind the music, exploring the love-life of an unmarried Beethoven. The episode date and time to air is yet to be announced, however, the event will be followed by a Q&A zoom. For access to the zoom, email CSO Executive Director Thomas Wolf at cso@oneonta.edu. Also, donations are welcome at https://catskillsymphony.net/ or by mailing checks to the Catskill Symphony Orchestra to P.O. Box 14, Oneonta, NY 13820. (Chrystal Savage/AllOTSEGO.com)
