The 2021 All-State team for softball honored a trio of Schenevus players, two players from Worcester and one player from Cooperstown and Morris.

The Dragons won the Section IV Class D title for the second time in school history, and first time since 1978. It was also the first time since 1995 that a team other than Afton or Deposit won the Section IV Class D softball title. The Dragons beat Marathon, 7-1, in the title game Friday, June 11, in Schenevus.

Schenevus senior shortstop Hannah Osborne led all area players, making the first team in Class D. Osborne plans to play college softball at Cobleskill.

Her fellow senior, Cassie Snyder, made the second team, and sister Sam Osborne made the third team for Schenevus. Snyder, the Dragons’ pitcher, plans to play college softball at Wells College.

Unatego’s Dana Stepp was named the Class C girls soccer Player of the Year by the New York State Sports Writers Association on Friday, June 18.

The New York State Girls Soccer All-State selections also included several local Section IV players.
The local players honored were:

Four Cooperstown pitchers combined for a no-hitter in a 10-0 win at Herkimer in a Center State Conference baseball game Monday, May 10.

Starter Alex Poulson got the win for Cooperstown, pitching four innings, striking out eight batters, walking two.

Kendall Haney, Liam Ford and Alex Hage each pitched one inning in relief, each facing just three Herkimer batters.

Hage, Derek Moore and Tristan Emerick each scored twice. Brady Hascup had two RBI and scored a run and stole three bases. Cooperstown scored six runs in the fifth inning to break the game open.

Cooperstown (4-0, 1-0) plays Adirondack at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, in Boonville.

Oneonta Job Corps kicked off the 6th annual Community Softball game in Damaschke Field on Friday evening as OJCA Director Chis Kuhn, Bob the Bulldog and Jocelyn Plows honored Kristen Winn, FRN, Michelle Zuk, FRN,Lee and Joanne Fisher,NAACP, Sonia Shultis, Tribe Yoga, Molly Swain, community leader & activist, Lynn Bailey, YMCA, Valarie Adams, United Way, and Kimberly Lorraine, United Way, by inducting them into the OJCA Community Partnership Hall Of Fame. Many local service organizations tabled at the event and raffled off backpacks of school supplies to area youth. The came concluded with a spectacular fireworks display. (Ian Austin/AllOTSEGO.com)
